Great award, great atmosphere, great event. Recently the Zacharias jury, led by jury chairperson Frank Breuer, proudly presented the Zacharias Award for the 29th time. Once again, we received numerous impressive applications from the entire DACH region for the well-known communications award. With this prize, we honor outstanding examples of model marketing concepts and public relations in the field of handcrafted bakery products.
The prize, presented at the BMW Welt in Munich, was awarded to three winners and one outstanding "special" prizewinner. Bäckerei Steinleitner convinced the jury with the concept “Brot, gebacken wie zu Großmutters Zeiten” (“Bread, baked as in grandmother's time”) while Fickenscher's Backhaus impressed with the sustainable crowdsourcing project “Das HEIMATBROT” (“Homeland bread”) and Landbäckerei Trittmacher with its courageous redesign and repositioning as a pure ancient grains bakery.
This year CSM presented the special prize to the Bäckerinnungsverband Niedersachsen/Bremen (Bakers’ Guild of Lower Saxony/Bremen) for its charity campaign “Backen für Gerechtigkeit: Das Reformationsbrötchen” (“Baking for Justice: The Reformation Roll”). With this campaign, the initiators not only made the 500th anniversary of the Reformation a tasteful experience, but also raised a large amount of money for the aid organizations; Misereor and Brot für die Welt.
In addition, there was a particularly emotional, first-ever lifetime achievement award presented. Laudator Manfred Laukamp paid tribute to the prizewinners Rosa and Hermann Ackermann, who have dedicated their lives to the service of the bakery trade, a common life carried by a deep love for each other. Although they have been pensioners for more than 20 years, they still work side by side in the family bakery every day. Their motto: “Work is our daily bread – bread is our daily work”.
Next year the Zacharias celebrates a milestone anniversary where CSM will present the award for the 30th time!
